The Island Story Gatherers Inc is a volunteer community organisation that believes ‘Everyone Has A Story’ and wish to provide a platform for these stories to be presented.
We believe that storytelling is embedded in and strengthens all cultures and we aim to strengthen community through encouraging, challenging and inspiring residents and visitors to listen to and tell stories.
We endeavour to celebrate all forms of storytelling; including songs, comedy, visual art, local history stories, poetry, theatre, film and published authors.
We held our inaugural Phillip Island Literary Festival in 2017 and it was a huge success. Our subsequent festivals were also exceptionally well-received and focussed on stories of survival. Artists were selected in accordance with the nominated themes of mental health, dispossession, racism, true local history, survival and the ability to overcome all odds.
We acknowledge and respect the land we walk on today – the land of the Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples and pass on respect to their elders past and present.
